What is KoolPool

KoolPool is aimed at catalyzing the most important resource of the city into action. Which resource? You! Think about it. What’s common with the morning commute to work for most of us? Traffic. Mind numbing, energy sapping and time consuming traffic. We all moan about it. Now here’s a chance for you to do something to rectify the situation!

We did some surveys on Vehicle Occupancy Levels and discovered something startling. The average occupancy of private vehicles was under 2 people per car! That means perfectly good vehicular space that goes to waste as we sit waiting to inch forward in traffic every morning. Most of us factor in at least 30-45 minutes extra travel time in the mornings. Now you know why you’re doing that!

Now imagine if some of these people were to leave their cars behind and pool in with someone else. And what if there were people waiting to pool but didn't know someone whom they could pool with? What if they had access to people wanting to carpool? Even with just two people pooling per car, can you imagine the number of cars that wouldn’t be on the roads! That’s where koolpool comes in!

Koolpool uses Information Technology to bring together people who are willing to pool and are traveling in the same direction. It uses the ubiquitous SMS for matching people traveling in the same direction and wanting to pool.

We call it an interesting initiative. It’s happening for the first time and it empowers YOU to make traveling less strenuous not only for yourself but also for your fellow travelers.

Brilliant idea!! Instead of spending crores in building flyovers, government should come up and support such low cost initiatives.

This is awesome!! For women like me, pooling with strangers was a big issue. But with KoolPool I feel confident while hitch hiking. Keep it up!

I agree with Monica. Security is a big issue for us women. Though I registered myself at various carpooling sites, I never could muster enough courage to pool with total strangers. When I heard of KoolPool and the precautions they take while giving membership, I felt confident enough to give it a try. And now I have been pooling successfully for the last 6 months and have made good friends enroute. Thank you KoolPool.

Hi!

I saw a clip on BBC World and was pretty impressed with what I heard about KoolPool.

Carpooling is something new in India and people are not aware of the concept. Lot of awareness programmes and publicity campaigns will surely make it a big success as KoolPool is the need of the hour.

Carpooling is a smart way to reduce the cost of commute as well as global warming. It's my contribution towards saving the environment.

In near future, fuel prices are obv going to touch the sky. Carpooling or using public transport is the only way to save few bucks as well as environment.

Carpooling is the call of the hour. Traffic congestion is one of the crisis nation has no answer for. Why spend money on flyovers and sea links when we have an easy solution like carpooling in hand. I wonder why our government doesn't wake up and support such initiatives!!

Great work Jyoti.

What initiative are you taking to increase your member base?

I saw a link for Infosys employees. Are there other corporates involved too?
